Audio Polarity Inverter

Multiply selected decoded channel samples by −1 and export a new WAV.

Polarity is not phase shift

Polarity inversion changes every selected sample from positive to negative or negative to positive. It is equivalent to multiplying by −1. It does not create a continuously adjustable phase rotation and it does not time-align recordings.

When it is useful

Polarity inversion can help when comparing two related microphone or wiring signals that oppose each other. Whether it improves a multi-source recording depends on timing, placement, acoustics and frequency-dependent phase relationships.

What does not change

For an isolated mono signal, polarity inversion normally leaves magnitude, duration, sample rate and nominal level unchanged. Audible differences often appear when the inverted signal interacts with another correlated signal.

Limitations and privacy

This tool does not auto-detect wiring errors, align phase, correct latency or guarantee better summing. Processing is local and output is a new 16-bit PCM WAV without source metadata.

FAQ

Is polarity the same as 180° phase? A full-band sign inversion is often described that way, but real phase relationships can vary with frequency and time. Can I invert only one stereo side? Yes, using first/left or second/right.
